Help please

Postby Livvy on Sun Dec 28, 2014 1:50 pm

Hi everyone, I'm pretty new to sculpting so I'm still finding my feet, but anyways, I recently attempted to sculpt two baby's heads, the second turned out better but both look like men, I can't quite understand how as I followed a baby tutorial, a picture is in the link, if anyone could help me I would be very grateful!
Thank you

I am not great at sculpting as I am a reborn artist, but one of the things I noticed is on babies the cheeks are more puffy. I noticed too there seems to be too much space between the bottom of the nose and the top of the mouth. I hope that is helpful, one thing that will help with the dement ions on faces is to go to here. Hopefully it will show you all the pictures. I hope this helps. I am sorry but the forum is really slow these days as so many are on darn facebook.

When sculpting a babies face you want to half the head and put all the features on the bottom half.On the Bottom half make three lines first line is the eyes second is were the nose will go and third line is were the mouth goes.Babies cheeks are also more chubby than an adults. Here is a pic showing how to work out proportions

Because some of the writing got cut off I rewrote it:
An infant's head with is
3/4 ths to 7/8ths its length
The eyes lie below the midline
The nose rests midway between the brow and chin.
The mouth rest midway between the nose and chin
When modeling the features, use the eye-width as your
gauge for size and spacing
