How to make a mini nappy

How to make a mini nappy

Postby judydickinson on Sun Jan 31, 2010 5:32 am

Someone showed us a mini nappy they had made on one of there sculpts, anyway, I've had a go at making one, here's how I made it

INSTRUCTIONS
PLEASE NOTE - THE PAMPERS LOGO IS COPYRIGHT PROTECTED SO PLEASE DON'T USE IT - IT WOULD BE BETTER TO USE YOUR OWN NURSERY NAME LOGO INSTEAD.

This is the basic shape I cut out, but add 3-5mm for the seam allowance all the way round:(this is on a shet of a4 paper for a 13" fat monkey)
Image

I used a flannel material for the inside and a very thin muslin for the outside material. You need to measure the doll your making it for:
Image
Measurement 1 measure around the waist where the nappy goes:
Image
Then measurement 2 is all the way round from the front waist to the back
Image

I've sewn all the way round starting from the bottom left to the bottom right - leaving the bottom edge open like a pocket.
Image

Turn the fabric inside out now, so the seams are all on the inside.
Next put a strip off wadding inside the nappy and sew it in place.

Change the thread in the bottom bobbin of your sewing machine for elastic thread and sew the 2 lines of elastic - sew with outside of nappy facing up, so the elastic thread ends up on the inside. (see lines in green)

Image

Turn over the open ends of fabric on the bottom or what will be the back of the nappy and zigzag stitch all the way along to finish off the back edge - I then turned this finished edge over and sewed it by hand to give a neat back egde to the nappy.( shown in yellow)
Image

Next sew thin strips of elastic in - (marked in orange)

Test it for size and work out where the velcro will go to fasten the nappy - mine would have been better with longer strips.

To add a logo use image transfer paper - like this on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/IRON-ON-T-SHIRT-T ... 1c0fab14d6" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Image

I searched google to find a logo, then scaled it up and down a few sizes and printed it out onto the tranfer paper - remeber to select mirror image when you print or the text will be in reverse.

Cut out the correct size image and iron it on:

How cute. Great tut
Morphing a ball of clay and wire into something beautiful is magical. It puts a bright light in my heart to see what my otherwise clumsy hands have created.

Nice job on this tutorial, Judy! Very kind of you to go through the trouble of putting it together for us. :-)
