WIP #27 & 28 - Corpse Bride Dolls - Completed Pics 11-Mar

Postby Jules_NZ on Wed Jan 18, 2012 5:06 pm

Hey everyone, been a while since I have posted a WIP
But here is what I am currently working on...Corpse Bride Emily, Victor & Scraps Dolls (I always said I will get to these)

Here are some pics so far

ImageImage
Image Image
Image Image

You may notice that the text in the images is backwards, that is because they decided to mirror the image on the DVD cover. I guess they wanted Victor on the left and Emily on right?? But I want it true to the actual movie, so I have flipped it back - otherwise Emily wouldn't be wearing the ring on the right finger!

I have also realised that Emily does have a kneecap still on her skeleton leg, so have to add that still. But all in all was happy with how the skeleton portion came out.

Her hand is fully armatured to the tips of the fingers, and the clay has some Sculpey Mould Maker in it making it rubbery. So you can actually gently pose her fingers - which I will do when she is ready to hold hands with Victor

And Emily's head is done
I was about to add her eyelashes, but then remembered she still needs her final bake, and I dont think the lashes will hold up to the heat, so I will add them when I had her hair after all the sculpting work is done

Thats all I have done so far, hopefully will get a start on Vincent's head tomorrow

NICE :) I cant wait to see them finished. You did a great job on the hand. I havent mastered the armature in the hand yet. Is there a trick to it?

Thanks Cheryl

I actually have a tutorial on doing a hand over an armature http://www.dollworld.co.nz/hands-and-feet-armature/
I generally only use it when the hand need extra strength

When you put the clay I think its easiest to pose the hand armature first, then slowly add a rod of clay wrapped around each finger, and then add the palm clay once the fingers are done. I do it a slightly different way in my complete doll tutorial, but I am planning to completely redo that in Feb as I have changed a few of my methods

Its one of my favourite movies too :)

The hand was fun, as I reminded me of when I did Jack Skellington from The Nightmare before Christmas, which has been one of favourite pieces even though it was one of my earlier works
I had so much fun doing the bones that I have decided Scraps the skeleton dog must be done too :)

I have done Victor
But I think I might redo him, he just doesnt feel a good a match as Emily does to me
And he felt a bit bigger than her

But let me know what you think
If I redo him this head will become someone else - I wont just trash it

wow they are looking great!! I think he is just right. Maybe the left eye on the picture should be more inserted. In any case, is not fair because Emily has paint already and Victor not. Remember that color does it.

I might try softening his eye lids, after seeing it next to the real Victor mine look to pointed
And shave down his nose a bit

And then will paint him up before doing his hair

That way if I dont like it he is still easy enough to change into another character

Victor has had some plastic surgery - a check reduction, a bit of a nose job and an eye lift ;)
I have started his hair, but need a lot of work shaping it
But all in all I am a lot more happier with him now

She still needs her white ribs, and will spend a bit of time sanding her
He obviously still needs his arms done, and have decided his outfit will be all material soaked in TLS, including his pants

Tomorrow will get his arms done and get a start on their costuming

You should really watch it, its a great movie done in stop motion just like Nightmare before Christmas
And with the usual trio of Tim Burton, Johhny Depp, & Helena Bonham Carter you know it has to be good

I also love the skin hanging down, it looks like leg warmers made of skin :)

Thanks Cheryl and Gaby :)

I was going to do Victor's clothes today, but instead did Emily's hair and her dress
Her hair I love, with a mixture of wool, Genesis Paints and TLS it came out exactly how I wanted it too. But the dress while it looks good is just not quite right, so I will redo it tomorrow
Image

And also a quick pair of panties for under her dress (cant have her going commando!)

Thanks Nik and Cheryl :)

Cheryl the hair is Tibetan Lambs wool. I mixed up some TLS and Genesis paint (because my wool was baby blue and I wanted it darker) and spread that over the wool while is was still on the pelt, then bent it over my finger to create the head bend and used the heatgun to set it. I then cut it off the pelt before adding the sections on the head with fabritac
You can see pictures of the pieces before they were attached on my sculpting blog for these dolls here

Thanks guys :)

Yes I am planning to sell them Patrizia
I have a craft fair I am attending in March, and then some doll fairs later in the year
So for me its always a toss up if I should try listing them on the local and international auction sites, or if I should hold onto them to sell at my craft fairs. But I think for these ones I will take them to the March fair (which is more for crafty people, so unlikely finished goods will sell, but they can help to show what you can do with the doll making supplies) and then try them on Ebay after that.

The entire piece comes apart for flat shipment
I was thinking of doing Sraps the dog, but I think he might just crowd the piece, so will probably leave it without him.
