Freedom In Madness (IADR Contest Entry)

Postby zoux.art on Fri Feb 18, 2011 7:12 am

Alrighty, I know posting with no pics is a terrible way to start a conversation on here. In my defence I'm out of batteries for my camera and I'll be picking them up this afternoon. I unfortunately was just too excited not to share more vision for this month's iadr contest, art of the soul. My entry is a female lycae, or she-wolf, in the midst of her first transition. I've been toying with the idea and sculpting (and scraping) bits of her all month. Yesterday I finally decided to jump in and my hands and the clay finally starting working in sync with my head!

The reason I choose to do this transition is because I have a wonderful "bit of a problem" that allows me to never anchor any emotion for very long. Therefore creating severe mood swings throughout every single day and night! I've always found the most calm in my rage. I know that sounds awlful, but it's the only time I feel one emotion for an extended period of time and it's blissful! Now I just vent my rage by washing dishes angerly, lol, but I tried to think of how to put this soulful emotion into art and my first thought was the werewolf!

She'll be on the brink of her change, just as her body and mind are being released into the blind oblivion of blissful rage! Freed of all her humanly worries and becoming immortally graceful!

So she's got an almost completed torso and I'll be spending the weekend on her head and hopefully finishing her legs. The big debate for me is whether to give her werewolfy feet, or hot red stilettos!

Hey, sorry about the delay! I ended up cleaning, rather then sculpting this weekend. I did manage starting her skull through, I need to add teeth and bond the upper and lower jaw still! I'm having some issues with her torso cracking, but I think it'll be fixable since she'll be partially dressed. So I've uploaded three pics so far. One of her front, one of her back, and one with the skull minus the bottom jaw!

thanks Lori. Here are a few more pics with her complete skull full of sharp wolfy teeth! I used the skull and teeth (altered a bit) tutorial on Mark's blog. The link is below for anyone interested in peeking at his awesome blog!

Ouch I can hear the bones cracking. love it. I have a real thing for putting fangs and boobs on the same sculpt. LOL femae Vampires being my first choice. Love the female lycan concept though. Look forward to seeing her finished.
Mark Dennis is so wonderful for teaching all of us his skull technique. I have made three pieces with the skull so far and am loving it. I do still like doing female faces free style without the skull though but for male faces it is working for me using the skulls.
Morphing a ball of clay and wire into something beautiful is magical. It puts a bright light in my heart to see what my otherwise clumsy hands have created.

Well I've obviously missed the IADR contest cutoff, but I'll continue through this as a pet project none the less! I unfortunately perked up over the past week and could not get my hands to agree with this project! So I was able to put some flesh onto the face and I even added color to the snarling, screaming lips to impress the feminine character. I'll be taking a break on her though, but I'll work on her as the mood strikes (and oh how it strikes)! So keep an eye open for updates. Here are a few pics of the face so far, very underdone!
