hi zoe!
i think its a great start. i would say yes, his mouth is a little youthful for him. i think the lips thin out and angle down at the corners the older we get.

do you have a macro setting on your camera...(usually the little flower icon)
and do you know what your shutter speed is?

Zoe, looks great so far. :-D I really like the big ears and for the lips I agree with Candis and Maggie. If you want him as an old guy the total lower part of his face could take some more creases and sacking skin

hehe thanks linda hes named after a song by george jones which reminds me of my father in law (although ive never seen my fil drunk hehe)but i always pictured wino to look like this and he deffo looks like my fil if ya know what i mean hehe

He's got a funny red nose, old baggy pants
When he staggers down the street it's a funny little dance
Children gather 'round as he falls down
Everybody laughs at wino the clown.

They just don't know the reason why
But when she died, he died inside
He lost all his will to live
And he had no use for pride.
Not even all his children's love
Could bring him back again
He just crawled into a bottle
Now he's waiting for the end.

He's got a funny red nose, old baggy pants
When he staggers down the street it's a funny little dance
Children gather 'round as he falls down
Everybody laughs at wino the clown.

They laugh when he comes down the street.
Stumbles all alone.
At they way he smiles and holds his arm
Just as if someone's holding on.
They all think he's lost his mind
talking to thin air
Ah, but only me and my daddy knows
That mama's walking there.

He's got a funny red nose, old baggy pants,
When he staggers down the street it's a funny little dance
Children gather 'round when he falls down
Everybody laughs at wino the clown.

But I never laugh when my daddy falls down
I'll always love wino the clown...

opinions please - clothes - clay or fabric- i say fabric, my hubby says clay (take into consideration he doesnt how hard it is to 'dress' a doll in clay or how fragile clay is if its that thin)

Re: WINO the delinquent clown fabric or clay clothes?

Postby PixieKnoll on Thu Apr 29, 2010 10:07 am

I prefer both methods. Using cloth on a fully sculpted doll is definitely a chore in itself, but can be very attractive. I would suggest this. Try doing the cloth method first. If it proves being too difficult, then, cut it off and proceed with the clay. The clay is also fun cause you can put the wrinkles and folds, patches and bows, any ole place you like and your imagination is not restricted by the confounds of a few threads sewn together. :-)

Hugs,
Lori

I agree with Lori- do the cloth first, and then if you decide you don't like it, you can always sculpt the clothes on later.

Muts, you don't have to use sheet clay to creat clothes. you use a subtractive process. Add more clay then you need then remove clay as you shape it the way you want it. You can also do some clay parts and some cloth. For example if you do a shirt that is clay and make the waist extra big and terminate it with an overhang. You can then take the fabric from the pants and but it right up to the underside of the shirt and it looks like the line is perfect and smooth but you didn't have to work hard to get the look. If you want to get a draped fabric look. you can actually take real fabric, and make your sheet of clay in the pasta machine and then place the fabric over the clay and us your roller to press the fabric into the clay. You can bake most fabrics at 275 withoout problems, I have done it this way many times. This gives you a very unique look and allows you to really bend and flex the clay anyway you want without fear it will break or tear. Good dluck with the outfit.
Morphing a ball of clay and wire into something beautiful is magical. It puts a bright light in my heart to see what my otherwise clumsy hands have created.

I would choose cloth. The cloths make the sculptures look more alive and real. Any method you chose, he will look great, I´m pretty sure :)

I love your old man... much better having changed his mouth and the song is soooo beautiful and soooo sad. I am looking forward to seeing him finished.
I would say clay clothes :)

Oh crappola, Zoe. But, I am certain once he is mended...he will be better than perfect. Good girl for going about it the right way on the fix. :-)

WOW really love his clothes so far - the shoes are fantastic and just love his big toe sticking out - shame he cracked but the good thing is that you can learn how to fix and in future will not worry if this was to happen again :) So pleased for you - looking forward to seeing more pictures xxx
