Going To The Dogs
GOING TO THE DOGS
Entry by Mother Earth

In the life of the Underground Wizard unusual things are going on.
The whole world seems to be going to the dogs.
“Perhaps that is a good thing” the Wizard ponders.
He reaches down to scruff the necks of his bright eyed sentinels Nicki
and Yahzee, Labrador sisters born of the same litter three years ago.
Their tails wag in appreciation for his love. He scratches around the enormous
ears of Chalupa, his teenage Chihuahua, now curled up on his lap pretending to
snooze with complete trust that he will do her no harm.
The Wizard suggests that dogs are spiritual mirrors sent by the Creator for
humans to better understand and experience His great love for them. They are
also teachers for living life in the moment, naturally and without regret.
Dogs are faithful and obedient friends for Masters who treat them with caring
and kindness. They keep no records of wrongs and do not care about one’s station,
culture or circumstances in life.
They Demonstrate unconditional love and will sacrifice their lives to protect their
human family from harm.
Their personalities are uniquely their own, and they make humans laugh which is the
greatest medicine on earth. They are a remedy for loneliness and despair. They sleep
when they are tired and yet they remain alert to sound the alarm and investigate intrusion.
They ask little in return for their many gifts.
“We can learn a lot about how to be friends from dogs.” says the Wizard. They
do not judge by human standards because they instinctively seem to know the goodness
of one’s heart. Animals seem to sense, and tend to shy away from people who suffer angry, self
absorbed or abusive natures. If only humans could be so keen.
Dogs will work tirelessly for their Masters, whether as guides for humans who are
blind or in fields, farms and ranches where their protective or herding abilities are
needed. Many save lives on rescue missions, sniff out contraband in containers, or
otherwise assist in law enforcement. Others are entertainers and even models for
artists. None of them complain about their work, and all of them are eager to please
given the opportunity to do so.
It might also be said that ‘dogs’ provide a common ground as worldwide ambassadors
because in every town and hamlet, every city and metropolis, every desert, mountain,
or nook and cranny where humans abide, a dog is part of the family.
If no one grieves the passing of a man, his dog will.
Perhaps the Creator made dogs as ‘man’s best friend’ because when all else fails, when
everyone leaves, and when we lose every treasure we hold dear, our dogs won’t judge us
or condemn us. They will happily stand by us and for us no matter what happens.
Perhaps they are here to remind us that we are more ‘precious’ in our Creators eyes than
our beloved dogs are to us. Would it ever be possible to acknowledge each other in the
best positive light, just like our ‘best friends’ see us?
Fantasy or Fact? you decide!
